China’s Largest TDI Production Line to Be Built in Gansu Province

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Experts at the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced that after many years of testing, Gansu Yinguang Company’s development and application of key toluene diisocyanate (TDI) technology has passed national technology appraisal. This TDI breakthrough has solved more than 260 technical difficulties and cost $30 million in research funds. Now the TDI production line at Gansu Yinguang is the largest in China. The current annual TDI production capacity is 50,000 tons. It is Gansu Yinguang’s pillar business in producing fine chemicals.

TDI is a raw chemical material that has wide usage and high market demand. However, only a few countries have its core technology. In the 1980s, Gansu Yinguang invested heavily in importing a TDI production line from Germany, but production on this line has not been reliable. In recent years, Gansu Yinguang entered into cooperation with many universities and colleges to upgrade the production line. During this time, its TDI sales approached $480 million. By the end of 2009, Yinguang’s annual TDI production will expand to 100,000 tons.
