Chinese Petroleum Firms Increase Crude Oil Storage Capacity

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Facing soaring oil prices, crude oil storage tanks have become an urgent need for China's oil giants. Reports from May showed that China Petrochemical Corporation (PetroChina) (Beijing) is building more than 100 large-scale oil tanks, each containing more than 30,000 tons. PetroChina has some 400 large-scale oil tanks. An expert from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said on November 6, 2007, that China has finished construction of some strategic oil reserves and has started to fill them. An official from the National Development and Reform Commission said in September that China's current strategic oil reserves are 2 million tons to 3 million tons and that they are expected to rise to 12 million tons before 2010.

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) (Beijing) has finished constructing several large oil-storage tanks in Daqing Oilfield and Lanzhou City.

Three oil tanks in the Daqing oil field in northeastern Heilongjiang Province began construction in April. At the end of October, water testing of two 150,000-cubic-meter oil tanks began, while civil engineering of a 100,000-cubic-meter tank was completed.

The 150,000-cubic-meter tanks, designed and built by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) (Beijing), are the first of their kind in China's frigid zone. They will help Daqing to store local oil and imported oil from Russia.

The Daqing oil tanks were completed shortly after CNPC finished two 150,000-cubic-meter oil tanks in Lanzhou City of central Gansu Province. There are three 100,000-cubic-meter floating-roof tanks and two 150,000-cubic meter double-pontoon floating roof oil tanks in Lanzhou. The height and diameter of the 150,000-cubic-meter tanks are 24 meters and 93 meters, respectively. The Lanzhou oil tanks took two months to finish, each weighing 2,867 tons.

CNPC also has recently finished two 50,000-cubic-meter oil tanks in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for importing oil from Kazakhstan.
