Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Cinergy Corporation's (NYSE: CIN) (Cincinnati, Ohio) regulated subsidiary PSI Energy Incorporated (Plainfield, Indiana) is approximately 40% complete with the repowering of two General Electric (GE) steam turbine/generator sets in Noblesville, Indiana.
Along with engineering & construction firm Sargent & Lundy (Chicago, Illinois), Cinergy started repowering the two 50-megawatt (MW) 1950 vintage steam turbine/generator sets in February 2002. The project is scheduled for completion in June 2003. Cinergy is replacing two coal-fired boilers with three natural gas-fired combustion turbine/generators, each with a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) that provides steam to the steam turbine/generators. Cinergy is doing this for a two-fold purpose: it will increase the stations capacity from 100MW to 300MW, and it will help meet state and federal environmental requirements for sulfur dioxide (SO2) & nitrogen oxide (NOx) reductions.
Cinergy Corporation was established in 1994 and is a diversified energy company. Cinergy owns or operates more than 13,000MW of electrical and combined heat plant generation that is operational in the regulated & non-regulated markets.
