Commissioning is Underway at Two Navasota Energy Power Stations

Officials with Navasota Energy Partners (Houston, Texas) stated Tuesday that commissioning on phase one of both the Colorado Bend Energy Center and the Quail Run Energy Center is currently underway. The company is expecting to begin commercial operation at both locations sometime in May 2007.

Quail Run, located off Interstate 20 in Odessa, Texas, and Colorado Bend, located off of FM 3012 in Wharton, Texas, are both 550-megawatt (MW) natural gas fired combined-cycle plants. Construction of both energy centers began in April 2006 and is being overseen by Teton Industrial Construction (Atlanta, Georgia), a subsidiary of PCL Construction Enterprises (Denver, Colorado). Phase one at both plants consists of two General Electric (GE) 85 MW MS7001EA combustion turbines, two Deltak heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and one 105 MW GE 5C steam turbine. Craft labor employed by Teton reached approximately 1,100 workers during the height of phase one construction at both facilities.

Civil Construction on phase two at both locations has commenced, with mechanical construction to start later this year. Both units are expected to be operational sometime in the summer of 2008. The identical equipment complement will be installed at both locations for the second phase and provide an additional 275 MW of electrical power to the grid.
