Construction Begins on Mando Corporation's First North American Automotive Component Plant in Alabama

Mando Corporation (Kunpo, Korea) one of the world's leading automotive parts manufacturers in Korea, has started construction on a $30 Million Automotive Component Systems Manufacturing Plant (PEC 04002491) in Opelika, Alabama to produce Braking, Suspension, and Steering Systems for customers across the United States.

The plant will be located in Lee County within the Northeast Opelika Industrial Park, on a 42-acre site near Interstate 85 at exit 66. Construction of the 159,000 square foot facility started near the end of September 2003 and is expected to be complete in the Summer of 2004. Plans were originally slated to being construction during the Summer of 2003, but were delayed. 150 jobs will be created.

Marshall Construction LLC, founded in 1976 in Montgomery, Alabama, was awarded the Design-Build contract for the new facility.

Mando Corporation specializes in internationally competitive state-of-the-art chassis components and systems. Their capability to produce brake systems, suspension systems and steering systems that permit the integrated development of chassis management systems is one of Mando's greatest strengths.

Mando has been established for over 30 years as an automotive parts manufacturer and has succeeded in becoming the first manufacturer in Korea to develop advanced products such as ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System), VDH (Vehicle Dynamic Control), ECS (Electronically Controlled Suspension), and EPS (Electric Power Steering). The company operates twelve production plants in seven countries and employs over 5,000 associates worldwide. They are major suppliers for General Motors, Ford, and Diamler Chrysler.
