Construction of Unit 4 at Ningde Nuclear Power Station Begins in Fujian
Construction on the main works for Unit 4 at the Ningde Nuclear Power Station has begun. It is the second nuclear power project in China with four units under construction at the same time.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction on the main works for Unit 4 at the Ningde Nuclear Power Station began in Ningde City, in East China's Fujian province, on September 29, 2010. Construction has begun on all four units in Phase I of the power station, making it the second nuclear power project in China, following Hongyanhe in the Liaoning province, with four units under construction at the same time, China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) (Shenzhen, Guangdong) announced on September 30, 2010.
The Ningde Nuclear Power Station is on the coast of East China Sea in Qinyu Town, Fuding city, which is a county-level city under the jurisdication of Ningde city, Fujian province. It has a total planned capacity of six 1,000-megawatt (MW) units based on an improved second generation of advanced pressurized water reactors, which are to be built in two phases. Phase I construction on units 1 and 2 began on November 21, 2008, and June 17, 2009, respectively; they are expected to begin operations in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Foundation excavations for units 3 and 4 have been completed, and the foundation excavations for units 5 and 6 unit are expected to begin by the end of 2010.
The Phase I project is jointly invested by Ningde Nuclear Power Company Limited (Ningde, Fujian), which is a project company jointly invested by CGNPC, Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Beijing, China) and Fujian Coal Industry (Group) Company Limited (Fuzhou, China). China Nuclear Power Engineering Company Limited (Shenzhen), a subsidiary of CGNPC, served as the general contractor for the project. China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Company Limited (Nanjing, Jiangsu) and China Nuclear Industry 23rd Construction Corporation (Beijing), two subsidiaries of China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation (Beijing), are responsible for the construction and the nuclear island erection, respectively.
Since the project began in 2008, total spending has reached more than $2.7 billion. According to the planning, total investment in Phase I will be about $7.2 billion, and all four units in Phase I are expected to begin operation by the end of 2015.
