The Alpharetta plant originally opened in 1995. The company has announced that it will close the 130,000-square-foot injection molding plant by June of this year.

The plant is a major supplier of interior trim parts to a nearby General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) (GM) plant in Doraville, Georgia. The plant provides door panels and rear quarter panels to the GM plant. The company pointed to the economic downturn within the automotive industry and a lack of work as reasons for the closure. Approximately 85 jobs will be lost as a result of the closure.

Continental Plastics Company was founded in 1951. The family-owned company currently operates 58 plastic injection molding machines in five modern facilities with more than 600,000 square feet of manufacturing space. The company consists of more than 1,000 employees.
