Contractor Awarded for $50 Million Heat and Power Addition at Cornell University

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Le Chase Construction Services LLC (Corning, New York) was selected to provide general construction services for a $50 million combined heat and power plant addition for Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

As a renewal and upgrade of the existing central heating plant, the university's plans are to expand the existing 10,000-square-foot (100'X100') heating plant by 15,000 square feet and install two 15-megawatt (MW), 13.2-kilovolt Solar Titan 130 dual fuel gas turbine gas generator sets with two heat recovery steam generators for future campus heat and electric capacity. The new gas turbines will combust natural gas to turn large electric generators.

Site preparation began this month with building construction planned for May 2008. Overall completion is expected for fall 2009.

Cornell University, founded in 1865, is a privately endowed university.
