Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held Crimson Renewable Energy LP (CRE) (Bakersfield, California), a division of Crimson Resource Management Incorporated (Denver, Colorado), is set to restart full production at its biodiesel plant in Bakersfield, California, by next week.
Construction on California's largest biodiesel plant began in August 2007, and the facility began operations two years later. CRE shuttered the $20 million plant last year, citing poor market conditions and the expiration of the blending tax credit.
The facility will convert a variety of feedstocks such as inedible animal fats waste, used cooking oil, and virgin vegetable oils into 30 million gallons of biodiesel annually. The plant can also produce 50 million pounds of refined glycerin yearly. CRE has been moving product for the past few weeks and is tweaking the equipment.
Currently, there are 12 operational biodiesel plants in operation in California, and another nine in various stages of planning. The CRE facility is located on Millux Road in Bakersfield, about 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
