Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The preliminary design for the 1,200-megawatt (MW) Phase I of the Yanshanhu power plant was approved in early December during a meeting held in Chaoyang City in northeastern China's Liaoning Province. Experts and representatives from about 40 groups, including North China Power Engineering Company Limited (Beijing), Liaoning Electric Power Investigation and Design Institute, and related departments of Liaoning and Chaoyang, attended the meeting.
The plant is the first power plant with a capacity of more than 1,000 MW to be built by the China Power Investment Corporation (CPIC) west of Liaoning Province by utilizing rich coal resources in the Baiyinhua Coal Mine to expand the firm's coal and power market in the east region of Inner Mongolia. The plant has a total planned capacity of four 600-MW coal-fired units. Two air-cooled 600-MW Chinese supercritical coal-fired units with an estimated investment of $622 million will be built in Phase I. Construction on Phase I is expected to start in the middle of March 2008. Construction for the first unit is expected to last two years, and the unit is planned to go into operation in June 2010 with the second one to follow in August 2010.
