DuPont Begins Operation of Fluoride Project in Southern China

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware) announced that its fluoride project in Jiangsu Province's Changshu City in southern China has recently begun operation. The project is in the Jiangsu Hi-tech Fluorine Chemical Industrial Park and operated by DuPont (Changshu) Fluoride Science & Technology Company. In mid-November, Phase I of the project went into production. The $80 million Phase I is dedicated to the production of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) resin and emulsion.

This plant is DuPont's first advanced plant in China dedicated to fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) production. The plant greatly reduces DuPont's delivery time in filling orders from customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.

DuPont plans to double its investment in China from the current $700 million to $1.4 billion by 2010. The Changshu project is one of many big steps taken by DuPont in making the plan a reality.

DuPont (Changshu) Fluoride Science & Technology Company is located close to DuPont's former successful joint venture, DuPont 3F Fluorochemicals Changshu Company, with Zhonghao New Materials Company Limited (Changshu City). The joint venture is dedicated to the manufacture of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) blend refrigerants and went into production in 2004.

DuPont was the first company in the world to release ozone-layer safe HFC cold medium products, setting an example for replacing chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) with more environment friendly products.
