Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Inc, Houston, Texas). EnviroPower LLC (Lexington, Ky.) has plans to develop power projects totaling in excess of $3 billion and representing over 4,000 mega-watts (MW) of electricity to be located in the Great Lakes and Northeastern regions. This new generation capacity is expected to come online between 2003 and 2005.
The plants would burn waste coal, combined with limestone and supplemented with locally mined coal. Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology will be used in these plants and is new to Kentucky, but already in use in other states and in Puerto Rico. Using this technology will ensure compliance with current and future emission standards and will help clean up coal refuse inventories called Gob Piles generated from decades of mining.
Each of these new power plants will consist of at least two CFB coal-fired boilers and two steam turbine generators to provide power to the grid. Using coal, which is one of the country's most plentiful and reliable energy resources, as the primary fuel source will produce clean and efficient power while supporting the initiatives of the National Energy Policy and employing a clean coal technology.
EnviroPower, created last year, is a privately held company headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky with approximately 10 employees.
