Europe's Coastal Windfarms Generate Megawatts and Dollars

The Horns Rev windfarm, located 14 to 20 kilometers off the coast of Denmark, now has the full complement of its 80 turbines in the commissioning phase with a peak total capacity of 160 megawatts (MW). The windfarm will produce around 2% of Danish power consumption.
Vestas (Ringkobing, Denmark) have supplied the turbines for the Elsam (Fredericia, Denmark) project that have been tested separately and in groups before being put into commercial operation. The output of the windfarm is expected to be about 600 million kWh that will be fed into the Danish power system.
Vestas are also supplying the turbines for Seanergy offshore windpark, which will be located 15 kilometers off the Belgian coast at Knokke Heist in a water depth of 10 meters. The 50 turbine, 100 MW project is planned for installation in two stages. The first 10 turbines will be installed in 2003 and the balance of 40 turbines in 2004. The turbine order will be worth around $90 million.
