Plans are to construct an 815,000-square-foot regional distribution center to support the company's Midwestern retail operations. A general contractor is expected to be selected by April, and construction is anticipated to begin in June of this year. Overall completion for the new distribution center is scheduled for the spring of 2012. Approximately 350 new jobs will be created.
Family Dollar Stores operates approximately 6,800 stores in 44 states and has approximately 45,000 employees. In 2009, the company listed revenues of more than $7 billion. Family Dollar currently operates nine distribution centers in Arkansas, Virginia, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Iowa, Texas, Florida, and New York.
