Reported by Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--It was all about the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry last week at INTERPHEX 2017, held March 20-23 at the Javits Center in New York. With more than 600 exhibitors, the convention hall floor was abuzz with news of innovative new products and services. The focus of the elaborate exhibits and informative breakout sessions was how to construct, validate and operate drug research and manufacturing facilities.
Process automation leader Festo Incorporated (Hauppauge, New York) and its knowledgeable team were on hand once more this year, eager to show their progress on becoming the sole one-source supplier for automating utility processes in the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry. The company showcased its new automated valve solutions, allowing automation from control cabinet to pipe for steam, inert gases, water, cleaning solutions, and powders applications. Festo's AquaJellies--bionic, autonomous jellyfish--were a big hit in their 500-gallon tank.
SKAN (Raleigh, North Carolina), a worldwide leader in pharmaceutical aseptic isolation and hydrogen peroxide-based sterilization technologies, successfully launched its newly patented SKAN NANOX Catalyst Technology at INTERPHEX 2017. The company also highlighted its award-winning Pharmaceutical Safety Isolator (PSI-L), a modular, small-scale aseptic processing isolator with SARA Material Airlocks for conventional aseptic applications.
GE Healthcare Life Sciences (Marlborough, Massachusetts) showcased its KUBio manufacturing platform, which delivers a fully functional, ready-to-run facility within an 18-month time frame. Visitors to the GE exhibit were treated to a virtual realty tour of KuBIo. With headset gear in place, the immersive experience allowed a room by room "walking tour," featuring scalable single-use Xcellerex bioreactors and mixers.
