McLane Foodservice Distribution, a division of McLane Company Incorporated (Temple, Texas), is in the planning stages for three new distribution centers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions. The company is planning to invest nearly $100 million for new distribution centers in Pennsylvania, Virginia and New York.
The projects in Virginia and New York will also cost $30 million each. The Albany, New York distribution center will be around 200,000 square feet. This project is not expected to begin construction until early 2008. The Manassas, Virginia facility will be 220,000 square feet with 80,000 square feet of cold storage space. This project is scheduled to begin construction in a few weeks.
Addison, Texas based Construction Management Technology Incorporated has been awarded construction oversight responsibilities for all three projects.
McLane Company, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Incorporated (NYSE:BRK.A ) (Omaha, Nebraska), was founded in 1894 in Cameron, Texas, as retail grocery store. Nine years later, the company moved into wholesale trade and has since grown in to one of the countrys leading distribution and logistics companies. Today, with over 14,000 employees, McLane supplies over 50,000 locations round the world including convenience stores, mass merchandisers, quick service restaurants, drug stores and movie theaters.
