FPL Energy Completes $273 Million Expansion at Texas Windfarm

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--FPL Energy LLC (Juno Beach, Florida), a subsidiary of FPL Group Incorporated (NYSE:FPL) (Juno Beach), has completed full commercial start-up of its $273 million, 195-megawatt (MW) expansion project at the Capricorn Ridge windfarm in Sterling, Texas.

Construction of the project started in December 2006 and was completed in the fall of 2007. FPL began full commercial start-up of the project at the end of December 2007. The expansion consisted of installing an additional 130 1.5-MW GE Energy wind turbines to the facility. The addition of the turbines will boost the facility's nameplate capacity to 445 MW.

D. H. Blattner and Sons Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project and is working on two other future expansion phases at Capricorn Ridge.
