Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). A power plant under construction in Pennsylvania by FPL Energy, LLC, a subsidiary of FPL Group, Incorporated (NYSE: FPL)(North Palm Beach, Florida), is nearing completion of underground work. The 750 megawatt (MW) plant is being constructed on the site of a petrochemical refinery owned by Sunoco, Incorporated (NYSE: SUN) (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) in the city of Marcus Hook. The new merchant facility will serve the growing demand for electricity in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland region and supply steam to the refinery.

The construction phase started last fall and is slated to be completed by March 2004. Next month, erection will commence on one of the key components that will make up the combined-cycle plant. Construction is at the 25% mark and engineering is nearly 85% complete.
