General Mills Relocating to New 670,000 Square Foot Distribution Center in Texas

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). General Mills Incorporated (NYSE:GIS) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) has signed a long-term lease agreement with real estate development company Hillwood (Dallas, Texas), an affiliated company of Perot Systems (NYSE: PER) (Dallas, Texas), for construction of a new 670,000 square foot product distribution center.

The project will be situated inside a new development in Denton County named AllianceTexas, which is a 65 square mile master planned technology, residential, and business center near Independence Parkway and Henrietta Creek Road in suburban Fort Worth.

General Mills will relocate operations from an existing 367,815 square foot facility on Westport Parkway in Fort Worth once the new distribution center is readied for occupancy.

Exel Logistics (GPb: EXL) (Westerville, Ohio) will continue to supply freight forwarding, warehousing, and distribution services to General Mills under a long-term contract.

The project cost is estimated to be in the $18 million range and construction began back in early July of this year. General Mills expects to take possession of the building and begin shipping product from the new location in December of 2002.

General Mills brands like Gold Medal flour, Bisquick, Betty Crocker, and various cereal brands will be distributed all across North Texas from the new distribution center.

General Mills records more than $7.5 billion in annual sales with products like breakfast cereals, Gold Medal flour, Betty Crocker desert and snack products, Nature Valley snacks, and Yoplait and Colombo yogurts.
