Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Start-up company Goldcrest Farms Incorporated (Strathmore, Alberta) has begun routing soil and pouring concrete at a new hog farm site near Vulcan, Alberta.
In a combined effort in which Goldcrest will raise the hogs provided by Elite Swine (Winnipeg, Manitoba), the two companies plan to construct a hog farm that will include a 3,000 head sow barn and four 2,500 head nursery barns to raise and produce pigs for Canada's growing pork processing industry.
The 117,000 square foot sow or farrowing barn will produce the baby pigs that will be held in four 9,500 square foot nursery or wean-to-finish barns till the pigs are ready for processing.
Three additional hog barn sites are planned in the future in the area and once the Goldcrest operation is up and running and permits are approved, construction of the additional sites could begin as early as mid-year.
Completion of the $7.5 million complex is expected by June of 2003. The site, in Vulcan, Alberta situated roughly 55 miles south east of Calgary, will also include a 7.2 million gallon capacity manure storage facility.
