Grupo Alfonso Gallardo Proceeds with Crude Oil Refinery in Spain

The company has selected Idom Group (Bilbao, Spain) to perform preliminary design for the refinery.

The company is working to obtain permits to construct the refinery and expects to obtain all necessary permits by late 2010. Grupo Alfonso Gallardo will select an engineering and construction company to perform engineering, procurement and construction services for the refinery, which anticipates commencing construction in late 2012. The refinery is expected to be operational by late 2015.

Grupo Alfonso Gallardo is a steelmaking corporation and is the largest corrugated steel manufacturer in Spain. The company is building the refinery to help reduce dependency on foreign imports. The facility will be the 10th refinery in Spain. It will be a total conversion refinery using state-of-the-art equipment and processes. The refinery will have process units, such as crude and vacuum units, naphtha hydrotreater, kerosene hydrotreater, gas-oil hydrotreater, hydrocracker, delayed coker, isomerization unit, sulfur recovery, merox, catalytic reformer, and hydrogen unit, and will support off-site utilities.
