Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Guizhou Chitianhua Paper Industrial Company Limited (Chishui City) is expected to finish a bamboo pulp and paper project in March in Guizhou Province. The project is the first of its kind in China. Guizhou Chitianhua has finished alkali collection, and pulp-making and materials-preparation workshops. The company is also working with experts from equipment providers to test the devices.
Guizhou Chitianhua started the $411 million, 200,000-ton-per-annum project in late 2004 near the area's bamboo forest, which covers an area as large as 1 million to 2 million hectares. The factory will process about 800,000 tons of bamboo from the forest.
The company adopted advanced techniques for the construction process to properly treat waste gas, water and residue. One of the techniques used is second-generation compact cooking, which has not been frequently used worldwide. Other techniques and features include ECF and TCF bleaching, a closed screening system and waste-water recycling techniques, making the total water consumption 50% lower than the national standard. The paper produced from the project will have a whiteness grade of 3%-4% higher than China's average bamboo-made paper.
Guizhou Chitianhua was established in late 2003 by the Chitianhua Group, Chitianhua Tianyang Industrial Company and two other local firms to manage the project. Chitianhua's businesses include pulp and paper, sales, imports and exports, forestry, agricultural products and chemical products, among other things.
Besides the Guizhou project, Guizhou's neighbor provinces and cities are also trying to establish similar businesses. Yunnan Province has set bamboo paper as a key development direction of its forest industry and has set a total area of about 2 million hectares to grow bamboo. Sichuan Province will have a $61.6 million project ready to run in the first half of 2008. Chongqing City is building a $130 million bamboo paper factory, which could be ready to run in two years.
