Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--A signing ceremony for the engineering contract for the 700-megawatt (MW) Huaneng Luoyang Cogeneration Power Project was held in Zhengzhou on August 6, 2013, according to an announcement from the Henan Electric Power Design Institute (HEPDI) (Zhengzhou, Henan) on August 8. Pang Ke, the president of the HEPDI, and Wang Xu, the general manager of China Huaneng Group Henan Branch Company (Zhengzhou, Henan) signed the contract on behalf HEPDI and China Huaneng Group (Beijing), respectively.

The Huaneng Luoyang Cogeneration Power Project is located inside the Luolong Science & Technology Park in Luoyang City. Plans involve building two 350-MW, coal-fired, supercritical, combined heat and power units with a total investment of about $490 million.

Early in September 2008, HEPDI completed the preparation of the feasibility study report for the project. However, due to the delay in approval and the limit of market conditions, the project did not kick off until October 2012. The signing of the engineering contract means that the project has entered a new stage. As per schedule, both units of the project will begin operations in the second half of 2015. Upon completion, the project will become a key power source support project in the western Henan power grid. It will be able to supply 200 tons per hour of steam for industrial users and heating to an area of 11 million square meters.

As reported, China Huaneng Group Henan Branch is the regional subsidiary of China Huaneng Group and Huaneng Power International Company Limited (600011.SH) (Beijing), the listed flagship of China Huaneng Group in central China's Henan province. The company is currently the third-largest power producer in Henan, with a total installed capacity of 5,100 MW. According to plans, the installed capacity of China Huaneng Group Henan Branch will expand to 7,000 MW by the end of 2015.
