Huadian Zouxian Power Plant Phase IV Begins Official Operation

On July 5, 2007, the #8 unit of Zouxian Power Plant Phase IV of China Power International Company, Limited (Shanghai Security Exchange: 600027) (Beijing, China) passed the 168-hour trial operation and put into official operation smoothly at Zouxian County in North China’s Shangdong Province. The official operation of the unit makes the total installation capacity of Zouxian Power Plant 4,540 megawatts, which maintained the plant in the top ranking among large thermal power enterprises in China.

It took only nine days for the #8 unit of Zouxian Power Plant from the ignition of the boiler to the completion of the 168-hour trial operation, a new record of the shortest time for the commissioning of similar units in China. During the 168-hour trial operation, the average load rate of the unit is 101.86%, and the maximum vibration at the generator shaft is 67 micron, far below the excellent international standard of 76 micron.

The #7 unit of Zouxian Power Plant Phase IV was put into operation on December 4, 2006. Total investment of Zouxian Power Plant Phase IV is $955 million; unit heat efficiency in Phase IV is over 45%, design coal consumption 270g/kWh, which is nearly 70g/kWh lower than the national average.

Environmental protection facilities such as a desulfurization scrubber were put into operation at the same time. The efficiency of the flue gas desulfurization scrubber is above 95%, particulate removing efficiency is as high as 99.9%, and 35,000 tons of SO2 emission can be reduced every year.

The two 1,000-megawatt (MW) ultra supercritical coal-fired units in Phase IV of Zouxian Power Plant are the largest units in a single capacity load with the highest parameters in China. As an important national construction project in 2005 and the project for the localization of a 1,000 MW ultra supercritical unit with technology imported from abroad, a large quantity of Chinese-made equipment is adopted, including core equipment such as the #8 generator. Completion of the project has accumulated precious experiences for the construction of 1,000 MW level core-fired units in China.
