Cheniere Completing Modifications to Sabine Pass LNG Train 3
Workers are in the process of restarting Cheniere's 4.5 million-metric-ton-per-year Sabine Pass Train 3 at Cameron, Louisiana, which has been offline since February 26, for routine efficiency optimization work. Cheniere is completing modifications to Train 3 as a part of the commissioning process. Natural gas pipeline deliveries to the Sabine Pass liquefaction terminal averaged 1.2 billion cubic feet per day for the weekly period ended March 8, 23% lower than in the previous week (Energy Information Administration). One vessel, with an LNG-carrying capacity of 3.4 billion cubic feet, left Sabine Pass last week, and a vessel with a carrying capacity of 3.6 billion cubic feet was loading at the terminal. Construction on Train 4 is progressing as scheduled and is still on track to be complete in August. Industrial Info is tracking 20 active Cheniere Energy Projects worth more than $40 billion. Braskem Delays Maintenance at Freeport Polypropylene Unit
Braskem America has delayed planned maintenance at the 705 million-pound-per-year polypropylene unit located at its Freeport, Texas, plant. The 45-day turnaround was tentatively planned to begin this month, but is now scheduled to begin in September in order to accommodate capital projects that need to be tied-in during the planned down time. Industrial Info is tracking eight Braskem polypropylene-related capital projects in the U.S., including a debottleneck, extruder rebuild/replacement and a DCS control system replacement with a combined value of $33.5 million at the Freeport plant. REFINERY BREAKERS
ALON USA to Complete Repairs Today on Big Spring Refinery FCCU
ALON USA expects to complete repairs today on the 25,000 barrel-per-day fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) at the Big Spring, Texas refinery. Boiler issues on Wednesday caused a 50% cut in rates. Alon executives do not expect any major planned maintenance at Big Spring in 2017. Total throughput at Big Spring earlier was expected to average 77,000 barrels per day for the first quarter of 2017 and 75,000 barrels per day for the full year of 2017. (Plant: 1000321)
PBF Begins 45-Day Planned Maintenance at Delaware Refinery
PBF is beginning 45 days of planned maintenance today at its 175,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Delaware City, Delaware refinery. Work will be performed on the 65,000-BBL/d fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU), 10,500-BBL/d SF Alkylation and SRU Complex. The 49,000-BBL/d Fluid Bed Coker is now running at full rates after having operational issues since late January and operating at reduced rates, which were estimated at 50%. PBF executives have vowed to make refinery reliability a top priority this year after a series of outages cost the company $300 million in lost opportunities last year. (Plant: 1013058)
HollyFrontier to Keep El Dorado Crude Unit Running During Maintenance
HollyFrontier has decided not to shut down the 141,000-barrel-per-day crude unit at its El Dorado, Kansas, refinery during maintenance work that begins next week. The refinery has experienced issues associated with the 56,000-BBL/d vacuum unit tower and will be reducing rates on the crude and 20,500-BBL/d delayed coker during these repairs. The repairs are expected to last at least one to two weeks on the vacuum unit, but an exact timeline is not known until exploratory inspections are completed. HollyFrontier will also be performing heater repairs on the delayed coker, and catalyst work on the 22,000-BBL/d Reformer 2, 18,000 BBL/d HTU 4 Diesel Hydrotreater and 24,000-BBL/d HTU 2 (Heavy Naphtha) Hydrotreater.
