India Installs Record Renewable Generation

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--India achieved a record-high renewable energy capacity addition of nearly 44 gigawatts (GW) in 2025, led by strong growth in solar and wind power. The country added approximately 37.9 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity and 6.3 GW of wind capacity during the year, marking its highest annual renewable expansion to date.

Solar energy remained the primary growth driver, accounting for more than 85% of total renewable additions. New solar installations reached about 28.6 GW, reflecting a year-on-year increase of around 54.6% compared with 2024. This growth highlights solar power's continued role as the backbone of India's renewable energy expansion, supported by large-scale utility projects, improving execution timelines, and favourable policy frameworks.

Wind power additions also gained momentum, with 6.3 GW added in 2025--nearly double the capacity installed in the previous year. The increase was driven by renewed auction activity, improved grid connectivity, and rising interest from both domestic and international developers.
