Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-- Larsen & Toubro Limited (BSE:500510) (L&T) (Mumbai), an Indian engineering and construction major, has been awarded four contracts worth $217.45 million from different companies in the Middle East. The contracts involve the development of electrical substations at several locations in the region and signify the efforts of the company to consolidate a leading position in the Gulf markets. Electrical & Gulf Projects Operating Company, a part of L&T's Engineering Construction and Contracts (ECC) division, will execute the contracts.
Oil and gas major Qatar Petroleum (Doha, Qatar) awarded a $153.45 million engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning contract to L&T for building four substations, setting up 33-kilovolt (kV) and 11-kV power distribution and telecom networks, and laying 132-kV cabling. The project is a key part of the development of the Ras Laffan Industrial City, and is to be completed within 32 months. L&T was awarded the contract in a competitive international bidding process.
The second order was awarded by Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) (Doha, Qatar) for the construction of 66 gas-insulated substations of 11 kV each at Doha's Education City. The contract is worth about $20 million and will be the sixth substation project in Doha in which L&T will be involved.
The third order is from Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) for the construction of 132 gas-insulated substations of 11 kV each in Dubai. The $24 million project will be the third project in Dubai in which L&T will be involved.
Oman Electricity & Transmission Company SAOC (Muscat, Oman) has awarded a $20 million contract to L&T (Oman) LLC, whereby L&T will construct 132 gas-insulated substations of 33 kV each in the Nakhal area in northeast Oman. L&T (Oman) is a joint venture company formed by L&T's wholly owned subsidiary L&T International FZE (Sharjah, United Arab Emirates) and Muscat Trading Company LLC (Muscat, Oman).
