Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). The assets of Lansing Forge Incorporated (Lansing, Michigan) have been acquired by India-based Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) (Pune, India) in a $9.1 million cash transaction that was completed on June 24, after successfully completing a renegotiation of an existing contract with the UAW. The new company will be called BF America Incorporated, with headquarters in Lansing.
Since entering the automotive components business in 1999, BFL's compounded annual growth rate has been 48%. BFL is only one example of Indian companies that have, in the last few years, reevaluated their situations in a global milieu and have come out focused, lean, and with skills and technology aligned with global practices.
Bharat and other Indian companies are keeping a close eye on the $225 billion global automotive components outsourcing market projected for the next ten years and are aligning themselves to capture a significant piece of the pie. The company's main plant in Pune is completing an expansion to its forging capacity to 240000 tonnes a year and crankshaft machining capacity to 650,000 a year.
Bharat Forge Limited is the flagship company of the $1.25 billion Kalyani Group, which has significant presence in the key sectors of the Indian economy. Established in early 1960's, Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) today is a global corporation with a 'Full Service Supply' capability in engine and chassis components, with five state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, two in India and three in Germany, and now one in the U.S., with a global customer base. It is the largest exporter of auto components from India and a leading chassis component manufacturer worldwide. The world's largest and most technologically advanced single location forging facility, BFL is internationally respected for its cutting edge technology and established quality processes and capabilities developed over the years.
