Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). After four and a half years of organizing, planning and teeth pulling, investor-owned Levelland Hockley County Ethanol, LLC (Levelland, Texas) has successfully secured financing and will begin construction immediately on a new fuel ethanol plant that will be located in the Texas Panhandle in Levelland, Texas.

The company has secured 223 acres of property located off Highway 114 and FM 2646 in Hockley County. Levelland Hockley has received air permit approval and has secured financing; the company has begun to mobilize contractors and bodies to the site to begin construction. Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 40 million-gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will convert approximately 800 million pounds of sorghum into the renewable fuel and generate 128,000 tons per year of distillers dried grains.

Leading ethanol plant design-build firm ICM, Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) will provide the licensed ethanol production technology and hire construction subcontractors to build the plant. Construction is expected to take twelve to fourteen months to complete and once fully operational, will create 35 new full-time jobs in the rural community. RTO Technical Services, Incorporated (Fort Worth, Texas), an engineering firm, has also been involved with the development of the plant since the early days of development.

“We are very pleased to begin construction of the plant,” said Greg Methvin president of Levelland Hockley. “It will be a great boost to our local economy, for farmers, investors and businesses in the area.”

Construction costs to build the plant are estimated at around $56 million.
