Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas) Maytag Corporation (NYSE:MYG) (Newton, Iowa), who acquired Amana Corporation in 2001, is in the early planning stages for a $35 million upgrade of its Florence, South Carolina manufacturing plant.
Actual construction work should begin in the spring of 2003 and will continue through 2005 in the form of many small projects throughout the plant. The project will involve upgrades, modernizations and revamps of the existing manufacturing lines. Showing a huge commitment to the Florence community in the form of money spent and potentially new jobs will make the plant that was built in 1987 viable for the future.
Currently the plant employs 275 workers, a third of what it once did. However, this new investment will ensure that Maytag Corporation will remain in Florence for many years to come.
Maytag Corporation, founded in 1893 in Newton, Iowa, is a $4.8 billion per year home and commercial appliance company. With manufacturing plants in the United States, Mexico, and Canada and direct sales operations in Australia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom, Maytag Corporation employs over 21,000 worldwide.
