Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Milner Milling Incorporated (Chattanooga, Tennessee), a privately held company, is nearing completion of a new flour milling facility in Birmingham, Alabama. Todd & Sargent (Ames, Iowa) was awarded the contract and began construction earlier this year and completion of the project is expected in December of 2002.
Almost 25,000 yards of concrete have been poured at the site to form the footprint of the 13,920 square foot structure that is about ten stories tall. Twelve 25 foot diameter silos and five storage bins give the site about 760,000 bushels of storage capacity.
A two-story office and 22,000 square foot precast concrete warehouse will provide administration areas and finished product storage.
Milner is expecting to process roughly 10,000 hundredweight of flour per year and will supply flour for mainly commercial bakeries.
Miller operates one other flour milling operation in Barnesville, Georgia and upon completion of the Birmingham site; the company will have two plants operating in the United States.
