Moyer Packing Plans September Kick-Off on New Warehouse Building in Northeast

Moyer hired Tippman Construction Incorporated (Fort Wayne, Indiana) as the general contractor for the project and already has Schlough Incorporated (Blandon, Pennsylvania) a site preparation contractor on site performing groundwork and grading preparing the property for the building. Official building construction and steel erection is expected to begin sometime within the next 30 days.

Plans are to construct a 100,000 square foot building with freezer and cooler space to increase finished products storage for the beef processor that moves some 2,375 head of cattle through the plant every day.

A long refrigerated tunnel will connect the processing plant to the new storage warehouse and product will be conveyed through the tunnel to the warehouse before being shipped to its final destination.

The $5 plus million project is scheduled to be completed and fully operational by March of 2004.

Moyer Packing is the ninth largest beef processor in the U.S. and the largest in the Eastern United States. Operations include beef processing, fabricating and further processing, as well as hide processing. In addition to beef processing, the company has significant rendering operations in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia. Smithfield Foods acquired Moyer Packing in June of 2001.
