Award presented annually to select contractors who achieve exceptionally high thresholds of safety performance
Plymouth, Mich., April 19, 2017--National Steel City, one of the nation's leading structural/mechanical erectors to the power industry, today announced it has been awarded its second Triangle Safety Award for outstanding construction safety performance on Southern Company projects in 2016.
Bestowed annually by Southern Company, a major United States utility, The Triangle Safety Award recognizes select contractors who achieve high thresholds of safety construction performance:
- performed 100,000 work hours on Southern Company projects during the year;
- sustained no lost time due to injuries;
- achieved a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) below Southern Company's goal; and
- caused no interruption of Southern Company production and operations as a result of their work.
In 2016, NSC achieved a TRIR of 0, an LTIR (Lost Time Injury Rate) of 0, and a DART (Days Away, Restrictions and Transfers) Rate of zero.
NSC was first recognized with a Triangle Safety Award in 2014 for work conducted on Southern Company projects in 2013. In 2011, Southern Company recognized NSC as 'one of the most productive mechanical contractors ever measured' and a 'textbook example' of high productivity during installation of a heat recovery system generator and corresponding heavy haul at Plant McDonough's Unit No. 6.
In 2015, NSC was heralded for being one of the first companies to implement a 24/7 safety everywhere program: SAWHORSE (Safety At Work, Home, Office, Recreation, Safety Everywhere) to heighten awareness and foster an employee culture of safety everywhere. Also in 2015, NSC was awarded the American Institute of Steel Construction's AISC Safety Award.
