Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The National Development and Reform Commission approved the renovation expansion project for China Power Investment Corporation's (Beijing) Kaifeng thermal power plant at the end of December. The project will replace small units with large units. Two 600-megawatt (MW) supercritical coal-fired units with flue-gas-desulfurization devices will be furnished in the project.
The project will use urban intermediate water as the water source for its circulating system. The project will use the plant's ash field, and all slags of the project will be utilized. The project will also adopt a highly efficient electrostatic dust remover, a continuous monitor for the flue gas device, as well as low-nitrogen-burning technology. The project also has space reserved for a denitration device.
The project will be jointly invested by China Power (51%), Shenzhen Energy Group Company Limited (Guangdong, China) (43%) and Kaifeng Construction Investment Company Limited (Henan, China) (6%). A company will be established to be responsible for the project's construction and operation. The estimated investment of the project will be $616 million.
The project is east of central Henan's 500-kilovolt trunk grid. The project could further improve the regulating capacity between thermal power and hydropower in central China's power grid.
The project will replace 48 small thermal power units (720 MW) with large units. This could save about 870,000 metric tons of coal and reduce the emissions of 21,000 metric tons of SO2 every year.
