New 700-MW New Jersey Power Plant Comes Online

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Competitive Power Ventures' (CPV) (Silver Spring, Maryland) 700-megawatt (MW), highly-efficient combined-cycle generating station, located in the Woodbridge Township of New Jersey, recently began commercial operations.

The Woodbridge Energy Center is utilizing two General Electric (GE) (NYSE:GE) 7F.05 gas turbines and will generate enough electricity to power more than 600,000 homes throughout the state. The facility will sell its energy to the PJM capacity market. The project meets stringent requirements for air quality, noise and other discharges to minimize effects.

The plant sits on an abandoned chemical facility in New Jersey, with close proximity to natural gas supply and electrical interconnection. The power generated at the facility will be transmitted and sold through a 15-year standard offer capacity agreement (SOCA) with New Jersey utilities.

The project had a total investment value (TIV) of $800 million. Kiewit Corporation (Omaha, Nebraska) acted as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company. Consolidated Asset Management Services LLC (CAMS) (Houston, Texas) will be responsible for providing operations and maintenance and energy management services for the new facility.
