New York Wind Power Developer Identifies Over Twenty Potential Sites for Wind Power Plants

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Winergy LLC (Shirley, New York) a private energy wind power producer has proposed over 20 sites along the east coast in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Virginia. The cost for just the permitting is estimated to be $30 million. The total proposed generation would be in the order of 3-Gigawatts and total cost would be over $5 billion.

Winergy is expecting to utilize General Electric (GE) Wind's 3.6-megawatt (MW) wind turbine/generator sets at a majority of the locations but a few of the smaller stations would utilize 1.8MW Vestas wind turbine/generators. Winergy estimates that they would need about 3,500 wind turbine/generator sets. If built these stations would primarily be built at offshore locations.

Winergy has an agreement with Pierce Financial a Vienna, Virginia based investment bank to finance initial wind farm permitting and studies, which is estimated to cost in the range of $3-7 million. Winergy is also considering applying for government funding to develop a 10-12MW Power/Aeration demonstration project near Lake Erie.

Winergy expects to partner up with a large energy development firm to build the wind farms, and is also considering going public for financing. The company hopes to start construction in 2004 or 2005 and have the plants built by 2008 or 2009. Winergy does not expect to get permits for all of these projects in fact they expect to only get between 20% and 30% of them approved and built.

Winergy LLC was formed in 1999 and is following the belief that the $100 million invested by Europeans with projections of up to $50 billion by 2010 can be developed of the coasts of the United States.
