Nisseki Chemical Prepares to Startup New Unit in Texas

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Nisseki Chemical Texas Incorporated (Pasadena, Texas), a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Petrochemicals Company Limited (Tokyo, Japan) plans to start production of its new a EBH (ethylidene bi-cyclohepetene) rubber additive production unit in early June at their Pasadena, Texas plant site. Nisseki self performed construction management and originally planned to startup up the new unit in November of last year.

Nisseki Chemical like so many other Texas Gulf Coast chemical and petrochemical producers is faced with the task of reducing NOx (Nitrogen Oxide) emissions plant-wide as part of a TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality) NOx reduction mandate. Although the new EBH unit was built with the latest in technology offering low NOx emission rates, Nisseki still operates two pieces of equipment that will ultimately require some sort of retrofit. The first is a six million btu process steam boiler and the second is a 27 million btu hot oil heater.

Industrialinfo.com is tracking capital spending for NOx reduction projects at chemical plants across the country, and published a summary of NOx projects listed by owner in an Industry Alert titled NOx Reduction Requirements Along the Gulf Coast Drive Capital Spending.
