North American Food & Beverage Industry to Start Construction on $6.7 Billion in Second-Quarter 2017
In the second quarter of 2017, food and beverage manufacturing and distribution firms have plans to start construction on more than $6.7 billion dollars in capital and maintenance projects at industrial sites in the U.S. and Canada.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In the second quarter of 2017, food and beverage manufacturing and distribution firms have plans to start construction on more than $6.7 billion dollars in capital and maintenance projects at industrial sites in the U.S. and Canada. Industrial Info has identified more than 700 active projects, including grassroot construction, upgrades, modernizations, and major maintenance shutdowns, each with a minimum total investment value (TIV) of $500,000 and ranging up to $300 million. Projected expenditures for the U.S. shows $5.6 billion across 663 projects, while Canadian figures point to $900 million spread over 75 projects.
In contrast, construction starts for second-quarter 2016 were valued at roughly $4.9 billion.

Construction starts for April show 233 projects totaling $2 billion, while figures for May dip to 216 projects and $1.97 billion in project expenditures. June is typically peak season for construction projects, and this year's figures underscore the upward trend in spending patterns. Expenditures for June stand at $2.5 billion to commence construction on 289 projects.
From a geographic standpoint, the Great Lakes market region has the greatest expenditures for the period with $1.2 billion in construction starts. The Midwest and West Coast regions round out the top three market regions, with $1.1 billion and $861 million, respectively.
Project owners plan to break ground during the second quarter on 113 new plants for an aggregate investment value of $3.4 billion. Projects include a $90 million salad dressing plant in Indiana, a $50 million refrigerated warehouse facility in Washington, and a $33 million brewery in Canada and a $15 million water bottling plant in British Columbia.
