Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Basin Electric Power Cooperative (Bismarck, North Dakota) is in the process of installing nine 5-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired combustion turbine generators in Wyoming. The first three were installed at the Hertzog Substation; the second three are being tested at the Arvada Substation and the final three are being installed at the Barber Creek Substation.
The units at these three substations will be for peaking and emergency purposes and will be operated from Basin Electric's Antelope Valley Power Station. The plants were constructed by TIC (Steamboat Springs, Colorado) out of their Casper, Wyoming office. The units all have dry low NOx (nitrogen oxide) combustors to meet environmental regulations.
Basin Electric and its subsidiaries employ about 1,700 people and operate electricity-generating power plants with a total capacity of 3,323 megawatts. They serve 124 rural electric member cooperative systems which in turn serve approximately 1.7 million consumers in the nine states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, and New Mexico. Basin Electric has several subsidiaries, including Dakota Gasification Company, which produces natural gas from the coal gasification process, and products including chemicals and fertilizers. They also provide Internet access and business solutions through BTInet, and are a partner in a regional service company called Cooperative ConNEXTions.
