The following is an advisory by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Northwest Natural Gas Company (Portland, Or)(NYSE:NWN) has recently completed the surface facilities at its underground natural gas storage terminal located near Mist, Oregon. Construction on the expansion project, prompted by the West Coast energy crisis, began in March of 2001 and was completed in December of 2001. Final checkout and commissioning was completed in February of 2002.
The expansion entailed the addition of an RBB-20 Cooper centrifugal compressor utilizing a Rolls Royce KC-7 as the drive unit. Other surface installations included new gathering pipe and wells to increase the withdrawal rate to 317 mmcfd of natural gas. Process Engineering & Design (Portland, Or) was awarded the engineering contract for the expansion. Northwest's Mist gas storage facility is a system of four depleted reservoirs with a total storage capacity of 10.5 Bcf of natural gas and 15,000 horsepower of compression.
Northwest is presently awaiting FERC approval for the remainder of its phase IV expansion which includes 60-miles of 24' diameter transmission pipeline and the reworking of a two additional natural gas storage reservoirs.
Industrial Information Resources (IIR) is presently tracking over fifty expansion projects in the natural gas storage sector as well as construction activities in the production & transmission sectors.
