Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--It might be surprising to see Oregon in the top 10 states for planned industrial project starts in the U.S. for 2014. But a recent analysis of Industrial Info's North American Industrial Project Database reveals just that.
Although the state is not known as an industrial powerhouse, industrial firms in Oregon are planning 69 projects that scheduled to begin construction in 2014. These projects total more than $9 billion in investment value. Oregon is the No. 8 on the list behind Texas, Louisiana, California, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Energy projects, including natural gas power plants, wind energy projects and LNG terminals, make up the majority of the planned development in the state. Construction is expected to begin any day now on the 440-megawatt, combined-cycle Carty Power Station, which is being constructed by Portland General Electric Company (NYSE:POR) (Portland, Oregon) adjacent to the existing Boardman Power Station.
TransCanada Corporation (NYSE:TRP) (Calgary, Alberta) will construct a 24.3-mile pipeline lateral to supply natural gas to the Carty Power Station. Construction of the pipeline is expected to begin in May and be in service by October.
Portland General Electric is also constructing a 220-megawatt (MW), natural gas-fired unit in Port Westward and a 267-MW windfarm.
In addition to the $9 billion in projects scheduled to begin construction in 2014, Industrial Info is tracking 104 projects totaling $23 billion either under way or scheduled to begin construction beyond 2014 in Oregon. Long-term projects include the $850 million Heppner Wind Energy project in Morrow County, Oregon.
