Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 440-megawatt (MW), natural gas-fired Carty Generating Station, which is located Boardman, Oregon began commercial operation last month following its completion by Portland General Electric Company (PGE) (Portland, Oregon).
The station utilizes a highly efficient G-class turbine manufactured by Mitsubishi and is capable of producing enough low-cost electricity to serve about 300,000 customers. The center will be ranked as one of the most efficient, natural gas-fired simple-cycle power plants in Oregon.
Construction of the facility began in June 2014. The plant was built to eventually replace the nearby aging Boardman Plant, also owned by PGE.
The project created hundreds of jobs at peak construction. The project had a total investment value of $670 million and engaged Day & Zimmermann Incorporated (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) as the general contractor. PGE will own and operate the new facility.
