OSU-Tulsa Opens $43 Million Advanced Tech Research Center

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Oklahoma State University-Tulsa has opened the doors of the $43 million Helmerich Advanced Technology Research Center (ATRC), which was completed late last year. The center will focus on four main areas of research: materials science and engineering, bio-based technologies, energy technologies, and information and control technologies.

More than 200 staff members and Tulsa legislators joined for the facility's opening ceremony. The building, constructed by Flintco Incoporated (Tulsa, Oklahoma), was funded by three main sources: $30 million from Tulsa County's Vision 2025, $12.9 million from the state's higher education bond, and $9 million from Walter and Peggy Helmerich of Tulsa, after whom the building is named. Walter Helmrich is the Chairman of Helmerich and Payne, a well-known oil and gas company serving Oklahoma and surrounding states for more than 75 years.

The 123,000-square-foot ATRC, designed by PSA Dewberry (Fairfax, Virginia), includes cleanrooms, lab space, an imaging suite, information technology equipment, two seminar rooms, and faculty and administration offices. ATRC is located in the main entrance of Oklahoma State-Tulsa, north of interstate 244 and west of Detroit Avenue. The school hopes the center helps to spur job growth and boost the economy. ATRC officials also expect new collaborations to flourish between the research center and area businesses. The annual budget for the center is about $9 million a year.
