The Palisades facility became operational in late 1971, and is operated by Entergy Nuclear, a division of Entergy Corporation (NYSE:ETR) (New Orleans, Louisiana). The nuclear facility consists of one 812-megawatt Combustion Engineering pressurized-water-reactor, with a Westinghouse tandem-compound turbine/generator set. Until recently the unit was scheduled to be retired in 2011, but after being granted their license renewal by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), it is now scheduled to be in operation until 2031.
