Plans for Yichang-Jingzhou-Jingmen Grid Approved

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--An expert panel organized by the Central China Grid Company (Wuhan) recently approved plans for the Yichang-Jingzhou-Jingmen grid (2008-30) jointly prepared by Hubei Electric Power Investigation, Design and Research Institute (Wuhan) and Hubei Electric Power Company (Wuhan) under the mandate of the Development and Reform Commission of Hubei Province.

According to the plans, the grid will have six substations and 10 main transformers with a total capacity of 8,250 megavolt-amperes (MVA) at the 500-kilovolt (kV) level by the end of 2010, eight substations and 14 main transformers with a total capacity of 12,650 MVA at the 500-kV level by the end of 2015, nine substations and 18 main transformers with a total capacity of 16,650 MVA at the 500-kV level by the end of 2020, and 10-11 substations with a total capacity of 24,850 MVA at 500 KV level in 2030. The maximum capacity of a single transformer will reach 1,200 MVA, and the maximum capacity of a single substation will reach 4,000 MVA.

The Yichang-Jingzhou-Jingmen grid will be at the central and western parts of Hubei Province in central China. The grid covers Yichang, Jingzhou, Jingmen. In 2006, the total social power consumption reached 24.1 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 29.4% of the total in Hubei.

The grid is the host grid of the Three Gorges hydropower base, the largest hydropower base in the world, with many large power plants, including the Three Gorges, Gezhouba, Geheyan, Gaobazhou and Jingmen. Because of the large quantity of power transmission from the Three Gorges hydropower base to central China, eastern China and southern China, the grid has become a passage grid with strong transmission capability and the nationwide exchange center in realizing the transmission of power from the west to the east, as well as for hydropower in the south and thermal power in the north.
