Port Authority of Thailand to Expand Ranong Port

Reports related to this article:

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) will aid and promote the development of a planned port expansion in the Ranong province. The goal is to develop the province into a regional transport hub, supporting sea freight and the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.

The port in Ranong will be linked to the deep-sea ports of Laemchabang, Chon Buri and Map Ta Phut, Rayong. The new port facility will benefit both export trade and the Thai economy. Although Thailand is located in mainland Southeast Asia, surrounded by Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and southern China, the PAT is confident that, once completed, the port has the potential to serve as a Western gateway.

The expansion is planned to have two phases and will cover 50.4 hectares of land. The first phase of the project is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2025.
