Power Output in China Surges to Match Fast Economic Growth

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Benefiting from the fast growth of the national economy, power output from public Chinese power producers surged in 2007. By the end of the year, the power output of Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Datang Power) (Beijing) and its affiliates reached 118.263 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), an increase of 26.55% compared with 2006. The total power sold to the power grid reached 111.341 billion kWh in 2007, an increase of 26.66% year over year, Datang Power, the flagship of China Datang Corporation (Beijing, China), announced on January 10, 2008.

According to Datang Power, the significant increase in power output in 2007 was mainly the result of growth in installed capacity and demand. In the second half of 2007, new units from projects owned by Datang Power and its affiliates, such as Zhejiang Wushashan Power Generation Company Limited (Zhejiang, China) and Guangdong Datang International Chaozhou Power Generation Company Limited (Guangdong, China), went into operation, greatly improving the overall capability of power generation.

By the end of 2007, the power output of Huadian Power International Company Limited (Beijing) and its affiliates reached 70.27 billion kWh, up 40.46% year over year, and the total power sold to the grid reached 65.40 billion kWh, an increase of 40.02% year over year. By the date of announcement, the total installed capacity of Huadian Power International reached 21.4257 million kilowatts, and the attributable installed capacity reached 16.3097 million kilowatts.

The power output of China Yangtze Power Company Limited (Beijing) and its affiliates reached 70.27 billion kWh in 2007, up 40.46% year over year, and the total power sold to the grid reached 65.40 billion kWh, an increase of 40.02% year over year.

The total power output and the power sold to grid of SDIC Huajing Power Holding Company Limited (Lanzhou) and its affiliates reached 35.545 billion kWh and 33.60 billion kWh in 2007, up 45.14% and 44.17%, respectively, year over year.
