Renewable Energy Systems Begins Operation of 60-Megawatt Windfarm in Texas

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Renewable Energy Systems Americas Incorporated (Austin, Texas) has commenced full commercial operation of its $150 million, 60-megawatt (MW) Whirlwind Energy Center in Floydada, Texas.

Construction of the project started in March 2007 and was completed in the fall of 2007. The project consisted of constructing 26 Siemens Power Generation SWT-2.3-93 wind turbines, each rated at 2.3 MW each. The power generated by the new facility is being sold to Austin Energy under a long-term power-purchase agreement that went into effect upon commercial start-up.

Renewable Energy Systems performed the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project and will also operate the facility.
