Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Rocky Mountain region continues its vast construction of plants as it enters 2008. The region, consisting of Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah, has 72 plants in the construction phase totaling more than $17 billion.
The 72 plants are spread fairly evenly throughout the region and different industry sectors, with one state and industry standing out above the others. Arizona leads the region in construction with 17 plants being built. The Industrial Manufacturing Industry leads with $7 billion in investments in the region for 15 plants -- more than any other industry. Seven of those Industrial Manufacturing plants are being built in Arizona -- the most new plants among all industries in Arizona.
Construction on 33 of the plants, worth $6, is scheduled to be complete in 2008. To break the figures down even further, five of the plants are in the Industrial Manufacturing Industry with an estimated cost of $2.5 billion. In Los Alamos, New Mexico, an advanced hydro-testing facility takes the bulk of the investment and is anticipated to be complete early in the year. The Metals & Minerals Industry also has five new plants worth more than $1.5 billion that will go online this year.
Out of the 33 plants scheduled to go online this year, almost one-third of the plants are in the Power Industry. The region is expected to get 10 new power plants worth about $1.5 billion this year. Lea Power Partners LLC (Lafayette, Colorado) is constructing a 550-megawatt (MW) gas-fired power plant in Hobbs, New Mexico, proposed to begin operation mid-2008. Another power project being built is Phase II of the 90-MW Bridger Butte windfarm in Evanston, Wyoming, for Mountain Wind Power LLC (Lehi, Utah). The project is set to be complete by the end of 2008. Industrial Info's Rocky Mountain Online Plant Directory consists of more than 2,185 operational industrial plants. The Oil & Gas Transmission Industry is the industry leader within the region with 388 operational plants. Metals & Minerals is also thriving in the region with 336 plants, and the Food & Beverage Industry is not too far behind with 325 plants.
