S&B Engineers and Constructors Selected for $175 Million Gulf Coast Project

BP (NYSE:BP) (Houston, Texas) is planning to construct a full-scale ethylbenzene-styrene monomer unit at its Texas City, Texas plant. S&B Engineers and Constructors (Houston, Texas) provided feasibility and evaluation studies for the new unit and was also selected to perform the engineering and construction effort.

Industrialinfo.com has been tracking this project since January of 2001. The total investment value (TIV) for constructing this new unit is estimated at approximately $175 million. Final approvals on this major investment are expected early 2005 and once the unit is complete in late 2007, it will nearly double capacity of the existing 532,000 metric ton per year production (ABB Lummus technology). Construction is expected to begin for this new unit in May 2005.

Other project activity at the BP Texas City site includes the installation of a new SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) unit addition that was built to help comply with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) environmental mandates for NOx reductions. Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (NYSE:JEC)(Pasadena, California) is providing engineering and construction services and should have that project complete by the end of the year.
